A woman was rescued from a precariously dangling car from the fourth floor of a parking garage in Florida after her vehicle reportedly rammed through the side of a multi-story building.
Emergency responders and crews with the Coral Gables Fire Rescue Division arrived at the scene to find a "white Porsche was seen hanging off the edge, supported only by a tree below."
The crash appears to have occurred after the driver accidentally hit the accelerator, "causing her vehicle to break through the garage wall" while on the fourth story of the garage in Coral Gables, about 7 miles southwest of downtown Miami on Monday, Coral Gables Fire Rescue Division Chief Xavier Jones said.
Firefighters deployed a lift to perform a high-angle rescue, and video footage from the incident shows a crew member being lowered to the driver's side to assist her to safety. She sustained only minor injuries, the fire department said.
“Thanks to our dedicated firefighters, we were able to safely bring her to safety without any serious injuries reported,” Jones said in a statement.
Witnesses to crash 'heard a big smack'
Witnesses in the area said they heard a loud noise as the scene unfolded.
Valeria Marsal, who works in an office building across the street told the fire department she "heard a big smack and rushed outside to see a mother and child directly below the dangling car."
"If that tree hadn’t been there, it could have been a much worse situation," Marsal told the department.
Debris from the incident landed on a vehicle parked on the street, the fire department said, adding it was not immediately clear if anyone was inside at the time.
The car, meanwhile, was safely pulled back into the garage and towed away.
"Crews are now focused on repairing the damaged portion of the parking garage wall," the department said.
